iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max: What will be updated?

Recently, many details of the new iPhone 16 series in the appearance design and some hardware configuration have been exposed by the media, especially the improvement of appearance, performance and image, which have attracted a lot of attention from the outside world.

So what's new about the iPhone 16 Pro? Let's take a look.

Size Updates and Design Changes

The appearance of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max don't change much but the screens will become bigger, with the two models featuring 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screens respectively. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will use a more efficient OLED display, made of LTPO M14 material, with brighter micro-lens technology as well as a bezel that will also be further narrowed, utilizing a technology called BRS, which reduces the bezel width of the display at the bottom of the phone by coiling the internal copper wires into a more compact structure.

A-Series Chips and Thermal Improvements

The A17 Pro chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro last year fell short of expectations, and some analysts have revealed that it is just a transitional design. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be equipped with the A18 Pro chip based on TSMC's N3E process, and will also introduce an enhanced neural engine with a significantly increased number of cores to support new AI features. To ensure performance release, Apple is said to be using graphene heat dissipation, along with a new heat dissipation design with a metal battery case.

Battery Updates

In terms of battery, the iPhone 16 Pro series may be upgraded from the single-layer battery of the previous generation to a stacked battery, aiming to provide higher battery capacity and longer battery life. The specific capacity has been increased, with the iPhone 16 Pro at 3,355mAh and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 4,676mAh, up by 2.5% and 5% respectively. From this point of view, the battery life will indeed be extended a lot.

In order to improve battery life, Apple is finally going to upgrade the charging in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is reported that the wired charging power of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will reach up to 40W, and MagSafe will also be increased from 15W to 20W.

Faster and 5G and Wi-Fi

Not only chip performance, the signal of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also be improved. It is reported that the iPhone 16 Pro series will be updated from X705G to Qualcomm X75 modem and support 5G Advanced network, which can bring faster and more power-saving 5G connection experience. At the WiFi level, different from the standard version of Wi-Fi 6E, the iPhone 16 Pro will be upgraded to Wi-Fi 7, which is also able to bring faster WiFi speed and lower network latency.

Upgraded Camera

According to relevant breaking information, the cameras of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also change.

  • The main camera sensor of the iPhone 16 Pro Max has been updated from the 1/1.28-inch IMX803 to the 1/1.14-inch IMX903.
  • The iPhone 16 Pro will also come with the same periscopetelephoto lens as the Pro Max, featuring a quad prism design, optical stabilization and autofocus 3D sensor offset module.

In addition, there will also be a new camera button below the power button on the iPhone 16 Pro. Multiple renderings and models show that the button is located below the power button on the right middle frame to facilitate users to take photos. The new camera button is mechanically designed to adjust the focal length by touch, and can also be tapped and repressed to achieve focus and shutter functions, so that the ritual of shooting is directly amplified.

All that said, iPhone 16 will be a product worth waiting for. We expect Apple to surprise us with more when new product is officially released.
